Students Taking Over On Poverty
16 Mar, 2012On Saturday March 17th, 2012 from 10:30 AM until 2:30 PM in the Ballroom of the SSMU Building, 3480 rue McTavish, the STOP (Students Taking On Poverty) Conference will conclude with a keynote speech from Stephen Huddart. Huddart is currently the President and CEO of the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation and a graduate of McGill University with a Masters of Management.
The STOP Conference has been taking place all week and has consisted of workshops and seminars with experts on topics like Art and Poverty, Social Policy and Poverty, and Human Rights issues. The hope is that the students involved will become motivated and inspired by their dialogue with said experts and submit a MY Poverty Plan of their own into the competition. The winner will receive a prize package including two tickets to Porter Airlines to travel anywhere in North America and, the most rewarding prize, the ability to see their Plan come to fruition.
The STOP conference is working with the charity, End Poverty Now, which started up at McGill University in 2006 and has spread its initiative and aid all over the world. On Saturday, the judges and students will vote on the most polished My Poverty Plan submitted, which will ultimately become the latest initiative for the charity.
