Why The Bull & Bear

Working with The Bull & Bear is more than writing, it is actively taking a bigger perspective on the McGill community. The core focus of our content is on discussing and exploring ideas, on telling a story, and sharing a perspective that inspires thought; all of which stem from the people who make The Bull & Bear exist. As with any publishing organisation, it is the people who create the content that ultimately decide the success of the publication, and is why we seek to provide the best platform for our teams to develop an expertise and realize something greater than merely contributing articles.

Training and Development

Accepted applicants to The Bull & Bear enter a full suite induction programme during the first month alongside ongoing personalized training and development from editors throughout the academic year. Staff are provided with consolidated resources to develop broad level writing talent within a magazine context as well as section-specific skills such as interviewing, research, argument analysis, and investigative journalism.

Video Editor

A new opportunity has arisen for an additional Video Editor with The Bull & Bear Media Group.

The Bull & Bear Media Group has rapidly become a successful and strong presence on campus, providing media coverage to a wide variety of events such as concerts, parties, conferences, and shows. We require a dedicated Video Editor to help direct and organize the current portfolio, offer creative contributions, and implement new media projects alongside content.

The role involves:

  • Working alongside videography team
  • Producing various projects on a consistent basis
  • Proactively implementing and offering new ideas

Key skills/experience:

  • Proficiency with Final Cut Pro or Adobe programs
  • High attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work well with and manage a team responsibly
  • Motivated to contribute and implement new ideas

To apply, applicants must submit a video that showcases creative editing skills. Videos do not have any specified time limit or genre and will be assessed on editing skill, creativity, and capability.

A final decision will be made by the end of the second week in the Winter 2014 semester.
